I am fortunate enough to have a great team supporting my Dakar Safari. My training is a key part of my preparation for the Dakar Rally – let me introduce you to Grant Mitchell, my trainer:
“With 21 years experience in the industry of sports, rehabilitation and sports performance I am looking forward to mapping out and guiding Graeme through an extended period of Sport Performance Training through the remainder of 2019. Having worked with teams and athletes in a variety of disciplines (rugby, track & field, cricket, swimming, waterpolo, moto-x, rowing, shooting and tennis) we confidently have a detailed approach to ensuring his Dakar 2020 preparation goes according to plan. This program is fortunate to be backed by the teams Nutritionist Kirsty Baxter who will ensure he understands and applies correct nutrition choices.
Graeme has to date been subjected to a battery of tests that gave us a baseline from which to create a periodised program geared towards progressing numerous components of fitness necessary for him to compete in the Dakar Rally. The early stages of his program will see him go through Anatomical Adaptation, followed by a block of Hypertrophy and Injury Prevention before we begin the more specific and detailed block of Strength Training. Amidst all this we aim to significantly improve his Reactive Speed and Visual Awareness to aid in decision making under pressure whilst on the bike.
The end goal of Graeme’s program is simply to ensure we build a robust athlete that can withstand the rigors of training and racing and in doing so, FINISH the Dakar in his first attempt”.
